“Musical art of the XXI century”. The main theme of this year's Contrasts has not been chosen accidentally. And it is not just a play of numbers, as it may seem at first sight. First of all, we were working on implementing this idea since the last year's anniversary Festival. The idea is in fact very simple — to offer you a festival programme that would represent an as broad as possible spectrum of genres and branches of the musical art of our time. Our main motivation in implementing our vision of the Festival was and is a strong intention to open the new decade of the Festival's existence with an emphasis on novelty, experiment and the unexpected, while not abandoning the traditional forms of music practice that are so familiar to all of us. This is why in the programme of this year's Contrasts you will see evenings of orchestral music in parallel with an installation, will be able to be on stage with musicians during their performance of chamber music, hear the compositions of audio artists mixed with a classical ballet, cello and baroque violin in a “club” setting. You will witness (and quite possibly take part in) the creation of a new musical work that will transform “in real time” the music of Baroque. You will have an opportunity to “decipher” the hidden symbols of concept performances as well as smell perfume transformations of electronic, audio-visual and improvisational orchestral compositions. Last but not least, you will be able to join the composers in a discussion “the Lviv way” - with a cup of coffee.

This is all contrasts which exist in us, in which we exist and which we create.
